What were hardy snowballs
of summer, fat white globes

drooping over gardens,
Annabelle hydrangeas

are now tainted green,
steering the season to a close,

August heat tinting tiny flowers,
stealing lacy bridal bouquets

from our wedding to summer.

go to the bank,
since I plan
to fill my tank.

Any plans for
saving: SHELVE—
